Condition:
This blade is in Very Good-Good condition. There is patina buildup and very slight rusting on the blade itself, but it is still razor sharp. The hamon (temper line) is faint, but visible. The grip is missing Mekugi (pegs) but the Sam
é (ray-skin), Ito (silk wraps), and other ornametation are all intact. The Tsuba (handguard) has some patina buildup, and retains approximately 75-80% of its original finish. The Nakago (tang) is properly weathered, and has not been polished/retouched. The Mei (signature) and arsenal Horimono (engraving/proofstamp) are both legible on the tang. The metal Seppa (spacers) are all intact, although the single leather Seppa is snapped due to age (broken seppa will be included for reference). The broken Seppa doesn't affect the blade's operability. The Saya (scabbard/sheath) is in Good-Fair Condition. it is structurally sound, but the leather cover is worn, cracked, and missing pieces.
Additional Information:
This Blade is a Katana-Style Showato-Daito produced at the Seki Arsenal during World War II. Unlike most Seki blades, this Showato is nontraditionally handmade by the bladesmith Okada Kaneyoshi, a level 5 smith as rated by Kurihara Hikosaburo. This pattern of Showato is considered a "Shin-Gunto" or an Army-Civilian blade for home-employees of the military. This blade would make an exemplary centerpiece to any World-War II aficionado's collection.
