    Description

    Imperial Japanese Naval Dirk. This was a souvenir from WWII of Vice-Admiral Morton L. Deyo. This is a traditional Japanese naval dirk with simulated ray skin grip, gilded brass mounts with traditional Sakura blossoms and thin tanto-style blade with fuller. Size: 16" overall with 9" blade. Handle 4 1/" L. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. NOTE: There appears to be a maker mark?????not certain, inside the top edge of guard, unable to show in pics or identify. Also the blade is  bright and shiny but light reflection has made it look discolored.  Release button on scabbard works & there is writing under scabbard, see pics please. The wooden plug sticking up from handle may or may not be original. CONDITION: Good to very good overall. Brass has been cleaned with traces of old gilt. Blade is fairly bright overall and quite sharp and appears possibly hand made though tang is unsigned. Sold as is as found and described by a recent James D. Julia's Inc.
